Miracle on Carrington
03/15/2008 12:46 PM by John M
UPDATE: Here is the “after” from 10 months later:
good for brave tom!
Why?
Why not?
Tom O’Kelly is a neighborhood hero
Does someone have an example or two of anything else that this fellow has accomplished?
I don’t have a *now* photo, but the double behind Jumpin’ J’s was a project of his, as are, I think, both of the houses seen here also on 23rd Street.
he also did the big red quad apartment on 24th between M and Cedar, and he’s doing the yellow house over on 26th and leigh that looked like it was made of driftwood and barely standing up before he got it
There is a house on Broad and Chimborazo he’s doing, too, I think. If I remember the sign correctly that is.
Brad:
Are you asking “why is he doing this?” or “why is this considered a miracle?”
I am going to assume the latter…
It’s a miracle that Tom didn’t save himself a bunch of money and just tear down what was left of the building and start from fresh…(but I heard he switched to Geico…)
It’s not about saving money. It’s a calling. Very brave.
and get this, see the crush and run out front where the sidewalk should be? tom/jewels is having to BUILD THEIR OWN sidewalk b/c the city claims there isn’t any money to do so.
oh, but wait, there’s $8million or so to upgrade infrastructure down in the bottom for a baseball stadium/retail venture.
i’d rather my tax dollars go to building a brick paver sidewalk on poor pitiful old Carrington Street.
Amazing. Carrington is a diamond in the rough. Drive down it sometime and imagine the quaint little cobblestone street it could be…
