Car vs sinkhole
06/06/2016 3:34 PM by John M
From Christy:
A car just fell into the sink hole at the intersection of N and 35th. All nearby neighbors have been calling the city for help for over a year now. Maybe this will prompt a response!
That cone has actually been there for almost a year now.
The city is a joke and line their pockets rather than fix the infrastructure properly. Cheap asphalt fill never works and only washes out. I know if I was the owner of that Mercury in the hole, I would be suing the city to get everything fixed on it especially if there is a paper trail of complaints. Like when that tree fell into that person’s house after it had been called in many times being unsafe.
We have a hole staring here on the 300 block of N 27th just next to a manhole so will only get worse. Someone put a homemade “caution” sign over it to stay it off some.
I have been complaining about getting our sidewalk fixed for the past 8 or more years nd not the first thing has been done yet they have funds to put in brick crosswalks not needed or fix sidewalks on unoccupied blocks.
There are signs of potential sinkholes &/or erosion under sidewalks and streets all around The Hill. Various traffic barrels and cones have been used to mark &/or cover them. SeeClickFix tickets have been entered (on some), but to no avail. There is a large, deep hole in the sidewalk along N. 24th St., (on the left side), just North of E. Marshall St. A cone was replaced by a large traffic barrel, yet no attempt at repair has ever been made. Recent rain in May (& June) seems to have created/exacerbated some of the issues. The City may be strapped for funds, but “Trip & Fall” lawsuits would be wise to avoid.

Glad we pay our taxes. Or does the city expect is to fill the holes like some cut the city grass
@11 Mike… I think we would fare better if we wad up a bunch of newspaper to fill up the hole and get a pot of glue to seal it if we have to wait for the city to do a proper job – or one at all on anything they have done the past 10 years. The paper and glue will probably last just as long.
Nice. I just sent them a message about potholes a several weeks ago on 37th and canepa. Nothing done yet.
In the event your vehicle is damaged by a pothole you can file a damage claim through the City Attorney’s office. You can reach that office by calling (804) 646-7940. An investigation will be conducted once your claim is filed. The results of that investigation will determine the outcome and resolution of your claim.

#13 I’ve reported that sinkhole twice on seeclickfix and they say it’s a sewer collapse and therefore DPU’s problem. They just pass the buck.
