City announces 2nd Annual Verizon SuperCity Cleanup
Last year, more than 6,400 volunteers turned out for the largest single-day community improvement event in the nation. Find out how you can participate this time.
The 2nd Annual Verizon SuperCity Cleanup will take place on Saturday, March 19, 2005. You and your family, church, school, business, or neighborhood group can be a part in making Richmond an even better place to live, work and play.
“Participating is easy. Just take a look around the places in Richmond you frequent – neighborhoods, public spaces, parks, gateways, commercial areas, etc. – and try to identify something you can do to make them better. That might mean planting a tree or flowers, picking up litter, cleaning up an illegal dump, painting a fence, or any other improvement activity that you feel would be meaningful.”
We worked as part of the New Vision Civic League last year. We cleaned up alleys between Q St and Fairmount Ave. between 22nd St and 19th St.
It was fun, gross, and interesting. A good number of people spontaneously joined the effort. The city provided trucks and bags and labor. We picked up 30 or so tires, and an insane number of chips bags and bottle bags. I found a gun and discovered 2 chickens. Last I checked, the chickens are still there.
If you want to do your part but don’t know of an organization that is participating, contact us here at chpn and we can help hook you up.
