Where I’m from, Where I’m Going
08/12/2005 7:40 AM by John M
Twenty-eight students from Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School participated in a five-week writing workshop this summer.
The RTD today published Where I’m from, Where I’m Going by rising ninth-grader Shebony Carrington about her experiences living in Fairfield Court.
Her essay starts off strong and stays honest:
I don’t know where you live or what you do, but I do know this: you don’t want to live where I live. You don’t want to see what I see every day. I live in Fairfield Court and I am going to tell you how I feel about it.
Some more about the writing workshop… The project came about through a partnership between Richmond Public Schools Title I, VCU, and TeenCity, a fledgling nonprofit (which should be up and running some time next summer) founded by Councilwoman McQuinn.
