520 North 31st Street to be demolished?

520 North 31st Street, located at the corner of North 31st & Leigh streets, is in jeopardy of being torn down. The owner has applied for a demolition permit for the building but will not demolish the building if someone is interested in renovating it.
The roof has collapsed in the rear portion of the building and will require immediate stabilization in order to save the building. The building is zoned commercial and is an urban corner store with an apartment above. There is an approximate 2 week window of opportunity here.
Asking price is $44,000. Contact David Herring of A.C.O.R.N at 422-2148 for more information.
The house located at 3100 E. Marshall is being restored. Why are they permitted to use replacement windows on a house in the historic district? We are having some of our windows repaired and were told by the city that we had to use “like” wood for our repairs? These replacement windows do not fit this house.

That is a good question. I’m not sure who or what code that falls under at all. Check out the Historic Preservation board on the Richmond City Watch boards. A post there might draw someone that could knowledgeably speak to this.
