The RPD lit up the 1200 block of 24th Street tonight for several hours with a truly honkin’ spotlight in an attempt to disrupt crime. In addition, officers were out in force tonight meeting and greeting residents in the area of the Fairmount neighborhood bounded by Q, 22nd, and 24th Streets and Fairmount Avenue.

Lt. Hamlet Hood of sector 113 in the 1st precinct said that “we all know where the trouble spots are”, and indicated that this was part of an ongoing campaign to make an impact on these areas. He said that the lights were very effective, that they were used as a way of getting “more bang for the buck”. Other nearby areas will be targeted in the near future. Other than disruption, Lt. Hood said that another goal of the activity is to help the upstanding neighbors make connections.

Officers went door-to-door, introducing themselves and passing out flyers. The flyer, addressed to the residents of Brauers, Fairmount, and Peter Paul, is from Lt. Hood and has information about the increased visibility of the police in the area. The flyer states that if you see crime in your area then please call the police. If the crime is happening now, call 911. If the crime has already occurred, call 646-5100. If you wish to talk or set up a meeting with a sector officer or Lt. Hood, call 646-3602.
