storm drains that don’t drain

The RTD’s Street Beat dodges the question on why some strom drains, specifically 24th and M Streets, don’t drain. Have you ever seen the Mosby/Fairmount intersection during a good rain? [via]

Ummm…. I don’t think that StreetBeat dodged the question, but the city’s response in the article (about “regular cleaning” of the drains) is interesting:
“This helps keep the basins clear of the debris that can cause clogs,” she said. “It also serves as a reminder to urge folks to throw their trash away in designated cans. Often we find these basins are filled with litter.”
I don’t call the city when the toilet in the house doesn’t drain b/c of too much paper, etc.; but if they came once a month to clean it anyway would I change my habits?
Josh,
I agree with you about storm drain maintenance. Storm drains would do a better job if people would dispose of trash and debris in its proper places. The city worker appears to clear sewers of trash and debris more often. Kudos to the city workers.
