Jumpin’ J’s permit is approved by city council
10/24/2006 6:33 AM by John M
Finally! Daniel reports that Jumpin’ J’s was approved unanimously, with Rev. McQuinn speaking strongly in support.
This permit that J’s has been seeking will allow an addition to the building, allow for earlier and later hours, and let them *apply* for an ABC License.
Well, Well. Its right before the election and she wants your vote and the votes of the 7th District residents who shop in your store. Isn’t that interesting…. How long did it take????
Anon, you criticize Malone, now McQuinn. Is there a write-in candidate you suggest?
If I can’t decide between McQuinn and Malone I’m writing in John Murden.
Daniel-
Great idea… I second that.
Malone will probably be useless… We know McQuinn is useless. But, I’ll bet John would be an outstanding representative of the district. How ’bout it John?
You say Malone is useless. He does have a proven tract record with the School Board. The only tract record Ms. McQuinn has is not returning phone and waiting until two weeks before the election to come to the rescue of a business onwner that has tried to get her to help for as long as I can remember. Ms. McQuinn has not done very little for her district and after the election she will have no use for you. J, It seems you are sucking up to a woman who until now has not helped and has not returned any of your phone calls. Just because she at election time strongly supported your request you are willing to vote for her??
(I don’t think that the ‘j’ above is the J of Jumpin’ J’s)
Oh by the way…did you hear she has accepted money from the developers of Echo Harbor and has it disguised as other campaign funds!!!!!
Great Council person huh. when she knows the CHA voted to not support their project.
thanks!!
I’m writing in John Murden.
This is the first connection that I made when I read this: Anybody up here remember Price’s Market, used to be over on Strawberry Street? When I walked out of that minimum wage job he gave me the equivalent of “you’ll never work in this town again”.
So, John Murden…who do you want to win? You know, who do think you can beat in 2008? I am thinking it is McQuinn (no Wilder artillery to defeat). So, let’s set her up so we can knock her down in two years before the more stable 4 year terms come around (where she wont do anything for a full 3.9 years, versus her current 1.9 years). Hey, if (renowned council gadfly and TV angle maximizer) Silver Persinger can run, why not Murden! (my apologies John for the comparison).
This is funny and flattering, but I would be a terrible candidate. I felt awkward enough *endorsing* a candidate, much less trying to stand out and say what is what. Plus I already get summers off, why would I want to blow that?
There are things that I like about both candidates. Both have been very responsive the neighborhood concerns that I have forwarded to them. I’m glad that I’ve started paying attention to this kind of thing. I wish that I had thought to ask them about dealing with the corner stores up this way – next time…
If Malone wins, who will be his Sam Patterson?
I see that “anonymous” has a lot of opinions. Why so anonymous about who you are?
Anonymity (and confidentiality) is the cornerstone of most good social research. Without it, no one would ever answer a survey dealing with difficult social or political issues. So, while this forum is not social science (nor have I seen a confidentiality policy posted by its owner…our IPs are not anonymous), it does deal with some difficult and inflammatory social and poltiical issues. So, let’s not beat up on “anonymous,” as the opinion expressed is what matters, not some notions of the credibility of the person who expresses it. I guess my question is, what do you prefer, an anonymous opinion, or no opnion at all? Anyway, if you knew who it was, would that mean you would what, go over that person’s house to confront them? So, not sure what the practical issue is. Sure, not allowign anonymous posting would probably tone down alot of this rhetoric, but what fun would that be? (the new generation expects to be entertained while being informed!)
I dislike anonymous posting because I care as much or more about who is giving an opinion than about the opinion itself. There are thousands of opinions out there… why should I trust one from someone I have no connection to? But an opinion from someone whose life I’ve seen and respect or who has built a foundation of respect from previous posts is one that I will listen to.
Bob — There has been a link at the site for privacy/use policy, probably since day 1. The page has been recently updated to reflect my own language, rather than boilerplate. Please let me know if you have any comments, questions, or suggestions.
I think John Murden is the perfect candidate. Write in his name !!!
Some people post “anonymous” becasue they are “offical” sources and don’t want to put their jobs at risk. John knows who those people are and who to trust. Right, John?
I think I know who about 1/2 of y’all are at this point.
I would like to plug the idea of posting w/ a psuedonym instead of as ‘anonymous’. If you don’t want to use your name or knickname, make up something and use that consistently — it makes it easier for other readers to realize that the same personality is behind a series of posts and to make connections.
I had to delete a post last week from a bootleg Delores McQuinn. That was funny, for a minute, the first time.
Folks opinions, depending on the topic, can also be quite variable. The old saw that people are intitled to their own opinions, but not their own facts applies here. So, who cares who states an opinion? when people claim to state a fact, however, credibility is an issue. Moreover, opinions tend to transcend those who state them. The true value of this exchange is the information shared among interested neighbors. I can count the times on 1 hand that I knew the person posting something on this site. That said, it still has been informative and entertaining. Unless John wants to hold a “frequent contributors” event, perhaps at Jumpin J’s fabulous new wine bar, then I think the point of anonymity is pretty much moot.
Anyway, thanks John for noting your privacy policy. I was just to lazy to look for it .
So if we all write John in and he wins, does he have to serve on the council or would you resign?
Campaign ploy or not, J’s ability to expand her business is great for the neighborhood. Congratulations and I look forward to having a glass of vino when I return to Churchill in December!
CONGRATS TO JE AND HER FINE ESTABLISHMENT………SHAME ON YOU THAT DO NOT WANT HER, THE BUSINESS OR THE AREA TO THRIVE…………I SAW YOU GO GIRL!! CHEERS TO YOU AND YOURS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON…………..
I’m a bit late getting on board here but, as a former Church Hill resident and life-long Richmonder, I see Jumpin’ J’s as an integral part of a vibrant, up and coming community. It’s expansion in space and time would be beneficial to all concerned. Why should this be a problem? Get rid of the roadblocks. Thanks.
