painting transom numbers?
12/19/2006 9:21 AM by John M
A reader writes in with a question:: My in-laws live in historic Church Hill. We noticed the other day that the street number on the transom above their front door is
faded and needs to be repainted. It is the same as most homes in in the
area – gold numbers outlined in black. Can you recommend
someone to do this for us?
We bought address stickers from the sign store downtown (Main Street). They have many fonts and sizes to choose from (they are special order). You can do it yourself (you will need to razor off the old paint).
If you want to get super-historic, you can buy gold or silver leaf at Main Art and Frame or Ben Franklin–that’s how they did it back in the day. You can also get gold or silver paint, which is what my husband did for ours.
If you really want to hire someone to do it, you might start by asking at the stained glass shop on 17th Street just north of Franklin.
Hi – You could always look at our site http://www.fanlightnumbers.co.uk. We have a range of ready made numbers that look like real gold leaf but at a fraction of the cost. Kindest regards
