Second Annual Community Training Day set for April 21
Come out and work towards creating solutions to neighborhood issues! A message from Lt. Jack King of the First Precinct and more info…
For the past eight months or so since coming back to Church Hill as the Sector Lieutenant, I have had the opportunity to talk with many residents about the issues in their neighborhoods. Additionally, I have read many comments/complaints about the Police Department, as well as the City in general, in the Church Hill People’s News. While many of these complaints are valid ones, some are the results of misunderstandings or misinformation. With that, I am issuing the following invitation, or challenge if you will, to all readers of the CHPN who live in, or own businesses in, the Church Hill and surrounding areas.
On April 21, 2007, First Precinct will hold its Second Annual Community Training Day. This training will include topics such as, the community’s role; identifying neighborhood problems; and defining goals to create a safe community; among many others. Members of the Police Department as well as representatives from various city agencies will be in attendance.
The training will be held at the Blackwell Community Center located at 300 E. 15th Street and will begin at 8:00 am. A light breakfast as well as lunch will be provided.
This is an opportunity for everyone to come together as a community to have your thoughts and opinions heard. While comments and complaints can be a good thing, when accompanied by a solution, they become better. When neighborhoods come together as one voice, their requests and issues are not just heard more loudly, but more clearly. The more representation a neighborhood provides to this training, the greater that neighborhood’s voice will be when we create Sector Initiatives. This training also provides a great opportunity for you to meet some of the officers who patrol your neighborhoods in a more positive environment.
So, what are you waiting for? Call me at 646-0572 and let me know you are coming. I would like to know by April 6, so we can make sure we order enough food. We are also trying to arrange some transportation for those of you who may not be able to, or may not want to drive to the training. Let me know when you call if you need transportation and give me a contact number.
I look forward to seeing and working with all of you on April 21. It’s time to become an active part of the solution.
Thank you,
Lt. Jack E. King, 1570
