A 14-year-old was riding his bike near 27th and P streets when he was nonfatally shot yesterday afternoon. [via]
Its time that Richmond citizens pushed for a Shot Spotter type system.
Scott, what a great system. RPD has (or had, a few short years ago) a grant writer. Sounds like an excellent prospect for a grant!
it seems to me that the sound follows the discharge of the bullet so maybe the damage is done when the bullet is fired and the sound is just an after thought announcement.
maybe the proposed city historic district will solve the problem with an intervention that moves the thugs to a different neighborhood so you don’t hear the gunfire
Bill’s comment, while funny, is true and I’m sure the police are working on it. That software system that is refered to is in use in North Charleston, SC and they have decreased the number of shots fired calls and increased the number of arrests.
Someone should definitely recommend this to the RPD.
They can track past calls for service and get an idea of where the future crimes may happen. This is already being done but technology is expensive and sometimes other things are less expensive but are able to make a larger impact. Just some random thoughts.
I’ll print out the above link and send it and a letter to the chief..
