stop means stop

A little bird that looks suspiciously like a policeman tells me that there will be some more stringent enforcement of the stop signs in the area, at least partially in response to some of the issues raised in the comments of an previous post. Be careful out there, folks.
TAGGED: St.John's District
I guess this is needed in some places… but I think we have way to many stop signs. I’ve started rolling(not speeding by any means because I drive like a grandma, but not stopping completely) through the 3 straight stop signs on Leigh because they are annoying. I guess I should stop that huh?
Daniel,
Your summons to traffic court is in the mail.
Enforce the stop signs? What a NOVEL idea! While they’re at it, could they also enforce the 25 mph speed limit and slow down some of those folks who think that 25 mph and 52 mph are the same thing? After all, the stop signs were put there to slow people down. I applaud any and all enforcement efforts to slow down traffic all around here.
Yeah Bill, I wondered after I posted that if it was a bad idea. 🙂
I don’t think stop signs slow traffic down… or if they are supposed to I don’t think they are working. I personally hate stopsigns… and I would gladly drive under 20mph to have all the stop signs taken away. Obviously everyone would have to agree to that and that’s never going to happen. Something similar is working some places in Europe though and I think we should consider trying something different.
Daniel,
I have read about a few places in Europe where ALL traffic control devices (lights and signs) have been removed with success. You are right, it won’t happen here. Govt exists to tell you what to do so we are protected from our own stupid selves.
Well, whether we need a million stop signs in a row or not, we have them. The good thing about more enforcement would be that it would give officers a chance to get a closer look at the trouble makers speeding through the neighborhood with their music cranked. Those same people just may have illegal guns, warrants, etc. I’m willing to stop at every block to get that off the street.
Stop means stop… brought to you by the same people who brought you “Those dogs are killing everyone!”
I just hope that one of the whiners gets a ticket for a rolling stop.
Ed, you’re too funny!!
I never stop at them. I hate them. At night, I dream about destroying them.
Go ahead……….keep running those signs. If an accident doesn’t get you the police will. Although, I too want to pull them down.
Talked to Kenny the Cop on Friday (May 11). Between him and Mac the Cop, at least seven tickets were written in a day for running stop signs. Dunno how many readers of chpn.net were ticketed, but be aware that they are trying to slow down traffic by ticketing those who run stop signs. Unfortunately neither of them was around when I narrowly avoided being creamed by someone who went flying through a stop sign…
