surrounded by empty lots and abandoned houses

Alicia has a post, Want to be my neighbor?, about what it is like living on one of the area’s most decimated blocks.
When giving directions to our house, Dan often says “You’ll know it is our street because it looks like it was bombed.”
Alicia, I understand fully what your block must be like. There are 7 houses on my block, all one one side of the street. Four of them were abandoned/shells 3 years ago. Now there’s only one left unfinished…mine, and hopefully soon to be completed.
Alicia, just like ann I fully understand. I moved to the 500 block of 33rd St a little over 3 years ago and there were several boarded up houses and I have a few vacant lots next to me. There has been a flury of renovation over the past two years and there are several houses for sale on the 400 and 500 blocks and more projects underway. I just wish some of these properties would start selling as they have been on the market for a period of time. That doesn’t necessarily sit well with me given a potential move to St. Louis in the future.
I’ve visited your block. Not terribly inspiring but looks like things are moving in a new direction for ya. Those abandoned homes are selling for more than our little bungalow in Fulton Hill !! Wow!
WOw I like 513 North 31St myself. It fooled me. We need to have more like it built.
