vandalized gravestones being restored
06/23/2007 7:46 AM by John M
City workers from the Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services have begun restoring the 40 to 50 gravestones that were found vandalized in Oakwood Cemetery on June 9th. The knocked-over gravestones are mostly in the rear part of the cemetery, near the Confederate section. [via]
Speaking of mistreated gravestones, I found a gravestone in my yard soon after I moved in about 3 months ago. I live just a couple of blocks away from Oakwood Cemetery. I think a former owner may have stolen it to use as a down-spout splash. Does anyone know where to report lost&found gravestones?

It is horrible that holy grounds are being dishonored and disturbed but it is even worse that the Sons of the Confederate are still seeking ways to continue the Civil War. Confederate soldiers are not the only ones buried their. What is their intent? How do they plan to protect? We need to keep the graveyard under parks and recreation and find ways to address the problem.
