Fatal fire on Chimborazo
08/15/2007 7:43 AM by John M
An overnight apartment fire on the 600 block of Chimborazo Boulevard has claimed one life and left another person injured. Fire officials have not released the name of the person they pulled from the house but family members have told firefighters that they believe he stayed behind to try and put out the fire. [via]
Wow. Lots of fires this year and too many fatalities. I did a search on this site:
http://chpn.net/news/?s=house+fire
There are 8 major house fires to date this year, and 10 house fires in ’06. Looks like if things keep going the way they are, ’07 will exceed last year.
Hey john_m, do you know how CH ranks in relation to the rest of the city when it comes to house fires?
I don’t, though I just sent off an email to the Department of Fire
and Emergency Services to see if they had numbers on this kind of thing.
Anecdotally, it feels like we have more house fires. Also, there seems to always be a bump around the time of the first real cold snap, when folks start firing up their oil furnaces and space heaters.
It does seem as if CH has a lot of house fires. Is it is relation to the age of the homes or is more often due to neglect? I would be interested in seeing the numbers as well.
And interested to know if they track how many of those homes had a workable fire alarm.
The man who died is being identified by friends as Douglas Walker, Jr. [wtvr.com]
There have been 2 other major fires very close to this one. One right around the corner and another on clay where some also lost there life. All were on chpn, im just too tired to find them right now.
