Jefferson Park update & tree challenge!
The city will be planting seven new trees in Jefferson Park this fall/winter. Unfortunately, the park needs an additional 13 trees along the perimeter of the park to replace other trees that have been lost. Find out how you can help…
From Bill Conkle, President of Friends of Jefferson Park:
Friends and Neighbors:
The good news is that the City will be planting seven new trees in Jefferson Park this Fall/Winter. They will replace trees that have been lost over the years on the park overlook.
The bad news is that we need an additional 13 trees along the perimeter of the park to replace other trees that have been lost. We need to act NOW to take advantage of the “adopt a tree” program the City offers. For the cost of $50, the City will plant an additional tree in the park. The deadline is Monday, October 1st, so please act quickly.
By way of this note I pledge the first $50 to adopt a tree for Jefferson Park. I challenge others, if you are able, to do the same. If you want to pledge $50 for a tree in Jefferson Park, please call me at 804-615-3764 or write junkifunki@aol.com . I will do all the paperwork and write the check to the City’s Adopt a Tree Program. You can get the $50 to me at your convenience. Trees can be given in honor or memory of someone, and more than one person/family can team up to adopt a tree. This is a wonderful opportunity to make a long term gift to the park and the neighborhood. Only twelve more trees to go!

I’d love to plant a tree in the park. Is paypal accepted?
sorry, paypal is not accepted. If you want to participate, please write a check payable to the Richmond Recreation and Park Foundation, put adopt a tree in the memo section. you can drop the check off by my house–2108 E Leigh if interested. thanks.
Bill – best of luck, I hope you get at least a few more trees planted! Great to see you on Friday night, too!
Friends and Neighbors:
Thanks to everyone that participated in the tree challenge. This is why I love my neighborhood!
The response was simply amazing. This Fall/Winter we will plant 25 new trees in Jefferson Park, a wonderful gift to future neighbors and park users!
I am currently working with the City to finalize the location and species for each of the trees. We are also working out a watering plan for the trees, because a part of the agreement is that the community makes a commitment to water the trees in the first two years.
I will keep you posted as new information is available.
If you were unable to participate in the tree challenge at this time, but wanted to get involved with the Friends of Jefferson Park, please contact me. There is plenty of room for your involvement both in the park and neighborhood.
Peace.

Friends of Jefferson Park and all park users are asked to volunteer on Saturday, December 15th to help with a tree planting at Jefferson Park. Please meet at the Park Bandstand at 8:30am for direction. Please drop me a line or give me a call if you plan to join in. With enough volunteers, the tree planting should last no more than a couple of hours. Bill Conkle, President, Friends of Jefferson Park, 804-649-3764 junkifunki@aol.com
The planting of 29 new trees in the park is a wonderful gift to the future. Peace.
