New redbuds for 23rd Street
10/06/2007 1:40 PM by John M
New redbud trees were being put in along several blocks of North 23rd Street today, up from Jumpin’ J’s . This is going to be absolutely wonderful come early spring.
Hip Hip Hooray for new trees! I also noticed new trees were planted in Shockoe Bottom in the wells where the trees were recently destroyed.
Hey John, forgot to say CONGRATULATIONS Mr. Murden, teacher of the month at MLK Jr. Middle !!
I don’t know what you are talking about 😉
John – REALLY?! WAY COOL!!!!
how do I adjust the type font here to double the size of the font and make it bold!!!
Congrats John and thanks to those responsible for the new redbuds.
If you are lucky enough to have a redbud planted close to you, please take the time and effort to water the tree on a regular basis, especially in the first two years. This is the only way the trees will survive in this urban environment. After two years, they should be fine. Redbuds are native to Virginia- so they should have a good shot at greening up the neighborhood in short order. Trees good.
From Adrian Higgins, Washington Post gardening editor:
“For a new street tree, and redbuds, which like evenly moist conditions, I would give them a bucketful once a week until the weather breaks. Don’t overwater them, especially after leaf drop.”
That’s great that new redbud trees were planted! Keep a keen eye out and learn what their redbud saplings will look like and then you can transplant one or two to an area near your house if they happen to come up in your flower bed or even out of a crack in the sidewalk. In only about 3 years you’ll also have a redbud in bloom for easter time. Enjoy!
Hey that’s my house!!
Trees rock and John rocks!
Steven – your view will be a festival of colors from now on: “Rose-purple flowers, bright red-purple foliage in spring changing to bronze by fall”
