Veterans Day Salute at St. John’s

A special Veterans Day Salute will be held Sunday, November 11 at historic St. John’s Church. Tickets will be distributed at 1 PM.

This National Historic Landmark was the setting in 1775 of the Second Virginia Convention, the pivotal event in our early history that propelled the colony of Virginia and the rest of the young country into war. This church became a living memorial to liberty when Virginia Founders like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Richard Henry Lee, and Peyton Randolph gathered at the church to plan a course of action. It was here that Patrick Henry uttered his fateful words, “give me liberty or give me death.”

The special Veterans Day Salute commences with a patriotic concert by Music Director and Choir Master Bob Copeland who will play the anthems of the five armed forces on the Adam Stein organ, and those representing those branches will be asked to stand and be recognized. Then guests will be transported back in time to 1775, and see how the early Revolution looked from the perspective of those who held the fate of our young nation in their hands.
