Beckstoffer’s …going, going, gone?
01/04/2008 4:17 PM by John M
Folks in the trade are saying that Beckstoffer’s, the custom millwork joint on 28th Street, is in the process of selling off all the good stuff and going out of business.
TAGGED: Beckstoffer's
Sad, but true. I was there this afternoon. They’ve been in business since 1897. Let’s all toast them tonight for the incredible work they did over the course of more than a century.
I’ve written a little blurb about our visit there today. That and some photos can be seen at: http://woodmechanic.blogspot.com/2008/01/goodbye-beckstoffers.html
They’ve been good neighbors. When we got our new huge’n’heavy compressor at the fire station next door, it was in the delivery truck such that we couldn’t get it out without a forklift. The owner brought theirs down and unloaded it for us.
I’m pretty sure some of the woodworking tools they have in that shop have been in use since 1897, too…
It was my great priveldge to work at Beckstoffers in it’s last days. The people I worked with were top notch and are now in serious trouble. So if you know someone in need of good help consider looking at a former Beckstoffer employee as a very good investment.
I think it’s a safe bet that we can thank some bad bussiness practices by 2 former owners whose last name is a synonym for crafty
They will be liquidating inventory until April 12th. If you’re looking for wooden doors, windows, paneling, molding & casework gypsum board, wallboard, wallpapers, drywall, corner guards, panels or paneling, you can have a look for it at 1209 N. 28th Street (the corner of 28th and R). For more information call (804) 248-2366 or email basilx@hotmail.com
Would someone have contact information for the owners of Beckstoffers or know how to get in touch with them?
The Better Housing Coalition has a contract on the property and Beckstoffers is no longer in business. What remanins of the inventory and machines are still available at the contact info in post #6.
