murder on R Street
02/12/2008 3:56 AM by John M
Just before 10PM last night an as-yet-unidentified man was shot and killed in his car on R Street between 19th and 20th Streets (the ragged edge between Mosby and Fairmount). [via]
RTD 2/12 Richmond has fifth homicide victim of 2008:
The phrase “drug related” really means “gang related”. There are feuds between Mosby and and Fairmont. Maybe small-time gangsters, but still a “gang”.
Drug related does not necessarily equate to gang related. There are many possible explanations (without even taking into account the word “appears” that the police used): a user who owed money to a dealer, a user who flashed a lot of money and got robbed, a dealer who ripped off his customers, etc. etc.
The gang conclusion isn’t warranted from the little information that’s been made public.
Most, if not all, of the drug dealers in that area are connected to a gang. It may not be a gang “hit”, but the dealer is most probably in the loosely organized Mosby or Fairfield groups that call themselves gangs. I doubt dealers that sell on their own are allowed in that territory.
Could this guy have been involved?
Police Find Crack in Man’s Buttocks
OK I know I’m being childish especially in light of how serious the topic is…but that headline deserves a prize. Great editing there!
You know, I was awake (against my will) at 2:30 last night, and I could have sworn I heard five or six gunshots in rapid succession.
How do you know, tiny, that all the dealers in the area are connected to gangs?
RTD 2/29 Police increase reward in homicide investigation
I am doing a community health project for the VCU school of nursing around Fairmount and my group is trying to get a feel for the safety in this community. Anyone have any observations about the crime that goes on here? We are going to talk to a police officer in the 1st precinct police station, but it is good to get info from people affected by the area’s crime because they live there. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
