New trees for Libby Hill Park
This coming Saturday, a group of the Richmond Tree Stewards, Church Hill Planters and Friends of Libby Hill Park along with the city parks and urban forestry will team up to plant six new shade trees on the recently denuded plateau of Libby Hill Park. In addition, they will be mulching under the big old trees to help them weather the inevitable summer drought. Come out and join the fun!
This is an opportunity to care for our trees in a substantial way. According to the Tree Steward Program, mulching and watering is the best way to prolong the life of old trees.
Come out and join the fun. “Many hands make light work”, as they say… Children can help, too. Bring a wheel barrow, shovel or rake and gloves if you can..

The species of the new trees were selected with input from community members and will be:
· Two Tulip Poplars
· Two Willow Oaks
· One Dogwood
Two Kentucky Coffee trees will also be planted in the park on April 15, as they were not available in time for Saturday’s planting.
