man with gun on bus freaks folks out
06/12/2008 12:10 PM by John M
Reports of a man with a gun riding a GRTC bus to 21st Street and Jefferson Avenue had police scrambling “in several parts of the city this morning”. Police eventually tracked the suspected gunman to Broad Street downtown and found that he was legally openly carrying the weapon. [via]
Good God. I’m moving to Richmond on Thames.
Owning and carrying firearms is a constitutional right. Just that you don’t see that many doing it as jobs and businesses frown on it or prohibit it. Yet, how many public business or areas do you see any signs saying “no firearms” except at banks? With the crazy world these days, get use to seeing more people carrying them openly especially after this type of wakeup call.
Eric
Thank you Eric. For every gun that’s carried openly there are thousands of folks carrying concealed guns. I know of several people on the Hill that carry they just don’t talk about it.
There are some people who really shouldn’t carry any kind of gun, concealed or otherwise. Take, for example, the middle school student who was shot and killed the other day.
You can’t tell by looking at a person whether or not they have a permit and are carrying a legally concealed weapon. I understand it is a constitutional right (sort of, when you really pay attention to Patrick Henry’s speech you realize he was talking about a totally different kind of arming oneself) but it is my constitutional right to feel safe on a city bus.
Now I do know the “crazy” people who shouldn’t carry concealed are an exception, not the rule. It’s just you can’t usually tell the “crazy” from the “sane” just by having one 15min interaction with them.
What wake up call, Eric? Please don’t tell me you are referred to that poor boy in Fairfield. My heart breaks for his family.
If you want to “legally, openly” carry a gun around in public, join the military or police force.
I’m with Paul… Richmond on Thames sounds good.
This place is crazy!
What countries have high numbers of armed citizens other than the U.S. and Iraq?
