Rainbows like hearing birds sing are becoming rare.. thanks for sharing!
Eric
Like hearing birds sing? When I had the windows up in the mornings, the rare birds were so loud, they woke me up! This is meant in humor so please take it that way (but they are loud).
When the whippoorwills are out (not hear, but in the country), and of course they’re night birds, they can wake up the dead! So I know what you mean bob. Eric, I’m wondering about your end of the neighborhood, :).
I KNEW IT !!! THE POT O’ GOLD IS BURIED UNDER FAMILY MARKET !!(CHECK THE RAINBOW YOURSELF-) THIS EXPLAINS THE SHIFTY TYPES “ON POST” OUTSIDE. THAT’S WHAT THE F.B.I. CALLS A “CLUE” PEOPLE…I’LL ARRANGE FOR THE BOBCAT & SHOVELS AND Y’ALL DO THE REST.MUMS THE WORD. JACKPOT !!!! -“ECONOMIC STIMULUS” FOR ALL !!!
When I was growing up, you would hear birds sing all during the day but they are rare in the sense you only hear them for a short period of time or not at all – at least in the city, and a welcome sound to me. Like church bells which have almost been silenced because of P.C. I was awaken many times as a child on Sunday mornings to church bells playing songs – something I dearly miss.

“Rainbows…are becoming rare”
Please tell me you meant this to be satire…
When I first moved here, my neighbor had a chicken coop, and pigeon coop, and a rabbit hutch. And, yes, he raised and ate the animals he kept.
At dawn every morning, I would hear the rooster crow. I really enjoyed it, though. I felt like I was waking up in the countryside even though it was in the middle of a city.
mike… maybe it is pollution or climate changes but I use to see rainbows at least once a month growing up. I am lucky to see one as I drive along once a year now and I make it a point to look when the sun is out while it is raining which is the best time… nada, nothing.
Eric…ya wanna see rainbows. Just take a trip or move to Kauai. Was there in December and saw between 5 – 10 a day for 9 days straight….ahhh the islands
i saw two rainbows side by side the other day. didn’t seem so rare….and like 4 last week. maybe it’s cause i go outside…who knows?
ps the birds still sing too.
I must have saw what looked to be a double rainbow too the other day – at least when I saw the tail end of it the part near the horizon was extremely wide – wider than normal but didn’t seem to be a “double”. I saw a triple rainbow about 12 years ago in Ashland and that made the newspapers but they were not stacked but looked as 3 seperate rainbows.
Eric
Rainbows always come in pairs and maybe more.
One time, about two years ago, after a rainstorm in the Summer, I had the good fortune of seeing quadruple rainbows.
The primary was bathed in brilliant colors, accompanied by a weaker, but still able to view secondary rainbow. The secondary rainbow has its colors reversed, due to two internal reflections about a raindrop.
Yes, this seems unbelievable, but I actually witnessed a Tertiary and Quadruple rainbow. These rainbows are EXTREMELY rare to see, but with luck, and the right location, they can be found.
The Tertiary and Quadruple rainbows are on the same side of the sky as the sun, making them hard to spot. To make matters worse, the brightness of the sun dims them out – but I was in the right place at the right time.
The Tertiary rainbow is right around the sun, with the same order of colors as the primary bow, but it is wider. It has a scintillating effect, and was a treat for me to see.
The Quad bow is right above the Tertiary bow, with colors reversed, as in the secondary bow. I noted this bow as an outermost arc, with a pulsating, rippling, and scintillating appearance. The Quad bow is wider than that of the Tertiary bow, darker, and somewhat dimmer.
I have sent in comments to some about these rare rainbows, and some said that I saw Solar Haloes. But, it wasn’t no halo – it was still raining, and raining in the direction of the sun. It was no halo……..this was the real rare McCoy Tertiary and Quadruple rainbows.
I stood beside a building, and saw the bows. Then, I shaded my hands over the sun’s glare, and looked up to see the Tertiary and Quad bows. They were scintillating, but were able to see.
I have never seen anything like this in all of my life. I also could not take pictures of these, because I don’t have the proper camera equipment to filter out the sun’s glare – but I did witness these rare rainbows.
In a million years to come, I probably won’t have all the words to describe it………….it was rare, and worth it. If you want proof of these higher order rainbows, type on Higher Order rainbows, and there will be information about these rare rainbows.
To conclude, they were beautiful. And, they do exist. Take it from me – I have seen them, and sometime with luck, maybe you will see them, as well. Good luck 😉
