eat what you can grow at River City Harvest

River City Harvest is a new Richmond blog that “aspires to become a local hub for Richmond’s growing edible gardening community.” The site is already stocked with information of interest to other urban gardeners, as well as folks interested in improving their knowledge of composting, irrigation and rainwater collection techniques.
Back home in Newport News / Hampton area during the 1970s, people could “rent” land plots on a private local farm to plant vegetables and use the honor system to keep people from stealing them. While working it you met some of the nicest people as well as sharing each others fruits of labor since there was always more than you could use.
Do such things still around 30 years later or ever existed in Richmond? Maybe something people should look into that and it would be a win-win profit for the landowner?
