Anybody know what happened with 404 N 27th? I thought the next-door neighbor was interested in purchasing the property.
This is for all the folks who live on the 400 block of N.27th Street:
At last night’s auction, my husband was the winning bidder for 404 N. 27th Street.
We’re very excited about the restoration of this house, in the Church Hill North Old & Historic District. We expect that all the other homeowners on the block are looking forward to seeing some changes there, too.
We don’t own it yet: there is another important, final step in the City Tax Auction process, and that is a Commisioner’s hearing in mid-January to ok the sale and transfer of title.
We’re working hard now to get our ducks in a row (and there are a lot of them) with the goal of begining work on the property in 1Q09.
They were but was out bided by someone. They had a set amount in mind versus repairs needed.
It is sold, went for $70k to an older couple who wishes to renovate it to live in themselves. The wife had mentioned she always wanted to live on 27th Street.
One of the neighbors is an architect and said it would take at least $150k to renovate that house and has a restricted footprint limiting it to 2 bedrooms.
They have 60-days to start and 2 years to complete the project.
The C.A.R. is aware of the sale and glad the house next door is restored and can use it as a reference since they are identical structures including embellishments.
Let’s hope they don’t end up disappointed or discouraged because the neighboring house went through several hands (contractors) in various stages of repair as there was a lot of hidden damages before it was restored and completed. Maybe it will be in better shape but having been vacant for so many years and not in great shape when the last people lived there, doesn’t help 404.

Elaine… how exciting you will be my neighbor 🙂 Congrats on getting the house!!! Glad someone who undestands the neighborhood can enjoy it.
Eric
Oh… and Elaine, sorry about the “older couple” remark. I am older than you but you know how second hand information can be 😉
Eric
Eric, no offense taken. John has silver hair, so he gets that “older” thing every now and then. Besides, 50 is the new 30! –Elaine
