Democratic primary for 70th

Democrats in the part of the area covered by the 70th District House of Delegates seat will hold a primary this Saturday from 1-4PM at 31st Street Baptist Church (823 North 31st Street) to select a candidte for the State Delegate position being vacated by Mayor-elect Dwight Jones.

Dr. Brandon has scheduled “coffee with the Superintedent” at 4 schools in one day to dialogue with parents and the community about the schools. On Mon.Dec.8 she’ll be at Thompson Middle at 8AM, at Chimborazo at 11AM, at Mary Munford at 2PM and at the Technical Center at 5PM. Come out and have some coffee or tea with Yvonne Brandon and a great opportunity for informal conversations about our schools

From a series of lectures on Black history, culture and related issues being presented at the Family Resource Center as a collaboration between VCU’s Department of African American Studies, Richmond’s Slave Trail Commission, the Family Resource Center, the Elegba Folklore Society and the VCU College of Humanities and Sciences.
East End Library renovation/services public meeting

“Tell us what you want your Library to be.” The City of Richmond’s City of the Future project has provided funding to renovate all the Richmond Public Library branches. Library consultants and architectural/engineering firm will hold a meeting to hear from our community about what you want our renovated library to look like.

16th Annual James River Parade of Lights

The 16th Annual James River Parade of Lights will be held December 13, 2008, at Libby Hill Park, corner of 28th and E. Franklin Streets. Live entertainment starting at 4:30 PM, parade viewing at 6:00 PM; and, the Intermediate Terminal Dock, at Dock and Water Streets, parade viewing at 6:00 PM.
This year’s parade features festively decorated boats with the theme “Saluting our Military on the Historic James”, chosen to honor the many men and women serving our country. The boats cruise the parade course from Richmond to Chesterfield and Henrico counties with spectators from throughout the region that gather at several official viewing locations. The event, sponsored by the James River Advisory Council, has become a cherished holiday tradition.
