Holiday trash pickup schedule
In observance of the Winter Holiday, all City of Richmond offices will be closed Thursday, December 25 and Friday, December 26. The City’s Solid Waste Management Division will not operate on Thursday, December 25, but will resume collection for residents on Friday, December 26. Trash pick-up regularly scheduled for Thursday and Friday will be delayed by one day. Therefore, Thursday routes will be serviced on Friday and Friday routes will be serviced on Saturday.
A similar schedule will be in effect for the New Year’s Day holiday in 2009. City offices will be closed Thursday, January 1. Refuse collections regularly scheduled for Thursday, January 1 will be collected on Friday; and Friday routes will be serviced on Saturday. Additionally, the East Richmond Road Convenience Center will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day; reopening December 26 and January 2 after each holiday.
Does this also include recycling? Thanks for posting this info.
I do not know for sure, but the trash pick-up and the recycling are *usually* moved together after holidays.
Speaking of trash…are others in the area experiencing difficulty in having bulk pickups and bagged leaf removal completed as stated by the City published schedules?
It seems that City employees view this is optional compliance.
Speaking of trash, we have a couch on our block that someone dumped on the sidewalk about three weeks ago. After street cleaning signs were posted, it appeared to have sprouted legs and walked into the street. (FYI – you can park your couch in the street without it being towed, but they will tow your car.) It is still there although it mysteriously moves a few feet every few days. (I swear I’m not moving it!) Anyhoo, does anyone know who I can call to have this thing removed? I know I can’t be the only person who is tired of looking at it every day.
That really gets me the way they worded it to be P.C. What are we celebrating here on December 25th? Invention of the Veg-O-Matic? No… hmmm, how about invention of the Ice Skate? Wrong again! It’s CHRISTMAS for Pete’s sake. Why have we been cowered down to ignore or acknowledge our own traditions rooted in this country prior to the 21st century? Everyone should respect each other’s religious holidays but why erase their existence into obscurity or allow them to be?
“Winter Holiday”… yeah, right.
Eric
I’m not religious, but I’ll take the day off and celebrate it no matter what you want to call it.
Bulk Item Collection
Some items are simply too large to fit in a Supercan or to physically be collected using our standard equipment. These typically include furniture and large amounts of yard waste, which should be placed beside your Supercan out of the roadway. Such items are collected by the City on a four-week, rotating schedule based on Zip Code. Citizens should call 3-1-1 to schedule a pick up. To view a map of collection zones, please click here*. Following is the current collection cycle:
Please continue to call our Customer Care Center at 3-1-1 to ensure that we are aware of your items.
