Murder on T Street
01/05/2009 2:58 AM by John M
An as-yet-unidentified black male was shot to death in the 2200 block of T Street at just after 10:30PM yesterday. The victim’s name is being withheld until next of kin is notified. Richmond Police are looking for a black male approximately five feet ten inches tall and wearing a black shirt, jeans and a red head covering that was seen leaving the scene on foot heading towards Mechanicsville Turnpike.
Anyone with information about this homicide is asked to call 514-TIPS (8477) to help police solve this homicide.
Richmond police have identified the victim as David Earl Boyd Jr., 35, of the 1500 block of North 22nd Street.
The RTD has more on Mr.Boyd:
That is just aweful; so heartbreaking. It breaks my heart that people can be so cruel and have so little value for human life. Another tear has been shed for the senseless murder of another human being. This senseless violence has to end. Sometimes I simply want to up and move to the suberbs or to the fan . . . but my Church Hill roots and my parents teachings tell me not to run away; to stand vigilent through the storm; to be a role model and path maker…but today I doubt my abilities. . . and perhaps it’s simply time to move on…
I heard the shot, as I live just a block away, and was struck by the fact that I was unfazed. I thought, “There are always gunshots.” or “Maybe it was something else.” But I began to think over the next day or so about the possibility it wasn’t just another gunshot. I read this, and I’m hit with my responsibility as a member of this community; I am convicted to explore my role as a neighbor.
My prayers go out to David’s family and to Cherika.
And to Cordie, know there is strength even when you feel there’s none left. Whether you find that strength in your community, or in your Maker, it’s there. Your commitment to your neighborhood, your home, is not in vain. Be strong and courageous!
Paul,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts with this community. Your words ring true with me and I’m sure with many others in our neighborhood. I don’t know you, but you exemplify the attitude and conviction that we all should share as neighbors. I hope that others (including myself) will take your challenge to heart. Building genuine relationships with our neighbors will go a long way toward effecting radical change in this community. Thank you for the reminder.
T and 22 was the right in the middle of the “Deuce Deuce” gang’s neighborhood. This is the gang the police busted a couple of months ago (also known as the “22 Street Boyz”). This local gang was in charge of the drug dealings in this area and feud with the Fulton Hill Boyz. Maybe there are still some members around or maybe the gangster mentality still exists.
Whatever the reason, it is heartbreaking. Do they have any suspects?
@Paul…I second Matt’s sentiments. Sometimes I just get tired; but your words and conviction have given me renewed strength. . . As Matt so eloquently said, thank you for the reminder. . . .
Nice thoughts everyone. I add my prayers to yours. There was a family and friends at the end of that piece of metal that will live with this death.
John, thanks for adding the additional detail. You put a face to what might have been “just another murder” in Church Hill. I’ve heard very few gunshots since I’ve been staying at the house but always wondered though where they found their mark.
We all have to take a stand so Cordie, no pulling up stakes and moving on. I’m hear for a reason and we all make a difference. One of my crew told me about some areas I may want to build/restore in, “Just stay away from the drug dealers business and they’ll leave you alone; bother them (call the police) and you may end up with your house on fire.” Well, I do not believe in letting a cancer fester or turning away from something I see as wrong.
This little part of the world, Church Hill, has taught me more about what a “good neighbor and neighborhood” is than any place I’ve lived in 47 years. That, my neighbors, coming form a northern VA/ Michingan/ Kentucky immigrent, speaks volumes about how amazing you all are and what you have nurtured here.
I’ve from credible sources that an arrest has been in this murder. Check back tomorrow for details if this gets confirmed…
@Deana. . . so true you are! Thanks for the gentle reminder and encouragement. Cool web site by the way. I love what you’ve done to that property. You are very talented and creative!
@John M. I do hope your sources are credible. Whoever did this needs to be taken off of the streets immediately!
Cordie,
Thanks. I take a very humble bow. I’m very proud of the way the house has evolved.
I am the sister of this victim. My blessings goes out to everyone who cares and have a heart.I just want to say that this was a senseless crime of him getting robbed over nothing,he didnt bother anyone at all.We miss him so dearly and this person is still out there. If anyone have any information about this crime please leave any information on my email blkbrbi96@yahoo.com if you do not wont to go to the police. If this killer didnt hesitate that time,he wont hesitate again.Lets get him off the streets so this will not happen again. You dont know how it feels until it hit close to home.Take care!!!
I would like to thank everyone that send there regards to my family. it has been hard on all of us. when i got the call that sunday night and seen my brother laying on the street a part of me died with him,i still can’t beleive that this has happen, please pray for me and my family.
Dana,
Let us know if there’s anything you and your family need from us as a community. There are a lot of us out here that care without needing to have met you. You and your family will continue to be in our prayers.
Cordie, I am glad you have renewed strength!
Dear Dana & David’s sister,
I cannot begin to imagine your heart break. I have three brothers and I too would have part of me die if any one of them passed on. Our prayers are with you and your family in so many ways.
People are talking and everyone is asking questions. This senseless acts will not stand.
My heart goes out to you and yours. When is the service?
From Chiles’ site:
“Remains rest at Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Ave., where funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, 1 pm, Interment Evergreen Cemtery.”
I am David’s sister. The fifth child to be born in our family. We burried him on Saturday, and it felt as if we have burried a part of ourselves. This is the hardest thing that I have ever had to deal with. My parents are even more heart broken than I, because David was the first to be born. All the money in the world could not bring him back. If any one knows anything, please reach out and tell the authorities. We need to all pull together, and stop the nonsence. I thank everyone for their prayers, love and support. God bless you all.
I’ve gotten from a Very Reliable source that the police “have people of interest in the case” and that “at this time it [the shooting] does not appear to be random”.
I am David’s daughter. I really love my dad and i don’t know what I will do without him. When he left, a piece of me felt so broken. Nothing in the world can ever bring him back. I just wanna thank you for all of your prayers, love, and respect. R.I.P Daddy
I second my daughters motion… She was his only child… anyone who knows who did this please call the police…. It can help put this in perspective for davionna and momma loves you baby! May not be as much love as having me and your dad but know me and your step father love you a lot!
