It’s official: Richmond City Council accepting applications to temporarily fill open East End 7th District Council seat

Richmond City Council is currently accepting applications to temporarily serve as councilperson for the currently open Richmond City Council East End 7th District Council seat.

Seat became open when Councilwoman Delores McQuinn resigned seat following her election as member of Virginia General Assembly

WHAT Richmond City Council is currently accepting applications to temporarily
serve as councilperson for the currently open Richmond City Council
East End 7th District Council seat, which became vacant following a
recent special election in which the elected holder of that seat
(Councilwoman Delores McQuinn) was subsequently elected as 70th
District Delegate to the Virginia General Assembly and resigned her
Council position as she was not legally able to hold both.

The candidate selected for temporary appointment will hold the
position until replaced by a person elected to fill the remaining term
in general election held on November 10, 2009.

A Public Notice calling for applicants to this temporary appointment has
has been duly advertised in the Richmond Times-Dispatch and the
Richmond Free Press.

Accordingly, and pursuant to Section 3.04 of the Richmond City Charter,
Richmond City Council is now accepting applications from persons
interested in being appointed to temporarily fill the vacant Richmond City
Council East End 7th District seat, as outlined below:

· Any qualified voter residing in the Richmond City Council East End 7th District who is interested in being considered for appointment should submit a resume listing his or her qualifications and other relevant information to the Richmond City Council, Office of the City Clerk, Richmond City Hall, Suite 200, 900 E. Broad Street, Richmond, Virginia 23219, no later than 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2009. The resume should include the candidate’s full legal name, phone number and home and email addresses.

· Candidates will be required to complete and return to the Richmond City Council Office of the City Clerk a Certificate of Candidate Qualification form. The form is available on the Virginia State Board
of Elections website, at www.sbe.virginia.com.

· Council will accept letters or other written documentation from individuals or organizations regarding the candidate’s appointment to the vacant seat.

· All documents must be received in the Richmond City Council Office of the City Clerk, no later than 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, January 22, 2009.

· Council will interview all qualified 7th district candidates on Monday, February 2, 2009 beginning at 4:00 p.m. The interviews will be held in Richmond City Hall, Second Floor Large Conference Room.

· Richmond City Council anticipates appointing the candidate to the vacant seat during the February 9, 2009 Formal Council Meeting at 6:00 p.m. in Richmond City Council Chambers.
