2 houses on 24th Street

I wanted to use this photo with this post, but I hadn’t taken it yet and it was raining the day that the blight post went up. The houses are actually semi-recently vacant, as they were occupied back in July.
Wow, those trees are nearly mirror images!
Nice framing of the photo even if the subject of the photo isn’t.
Its good to see that the blue house is finally vacant. That place was a blight on the neighborhood for a long time. The lot next to it as well as the alley combine for an open air durg market.
i can’t wait until someone renovates these two houses and gives them beautiful mirror image wrap around porches to match the trees.
If anyone knows the owner and he/she is willing to sell, they can call me directly at 814-4556. Thanks!!
You can look that up on the city site, the link is on the front page for Assessments.
A renovation would be a serious undertaking. Both houses are rotting and have had years of trash building up in them. The last time a police officer was in the white house, he commented that is was almost toxic. The white house also has un-repaired fire damage from a fire that happened prior to 2005.
J, post #7. Those houses probably aren’t in as bad a shape as your local cop implies.
There are LOADS of homes in Church Hill that seemed “toxic” to layperson before restoration began. Both of these houses on 24th are standing straight as an arrow. Sure, they’ve got the wear and tear of a bunch of flops and crack-heads who holed up there, but hey, they were built with wood that doesnt exist on the planet anymore…so they’re probably a-ok structurally.
The house i’m working on now scared the %*^#! out of the city assessor simply because it smelled so bad the first day we opened the door (the dead animal carcass didn’t hurt, either) and fortunately, he lowered my pre-renovation assessment considerably. Now, all the debris from the squaters is gone, and fresh air has lifted the funk off the place. The house is gonna fix up real sweet. Yeah it’s hard work, but the end result is a million times better than most new construction could ever dream to be. Don’t write these houses off.
My hubby and I are considering making an offer on the house at 1321 N 22nd St. I can see the potential, but what’s in the neighborhood as far as the city’s master plan. I understand this area was an area where the original street car was. Any info would help.
I live right around the corner from there. I haven’t seen specific plans for our area, but know that there is much interest in helping the neighborhood get fixed up.
The area is called Fairmount. About a year ago, it was named to the National Register of Historic Places. For a history of the area, check out the application to the registry. (and this!)
Just a half block south of there is the edge of the CHurch Hill Central Neighborhoods in Bloom area. This has contributed to many houses being fixed up on the 1000 & 1100 blocks of 22nd, the 1100 and 1200 blocks of 23rd, the 1100 and 1200 blocks of 24th, and some on Fairmount Ave.
There is some kind of upgrade coming for the library at R & 25th but we don’t really know yet.
The big vacant lot at 25th and Nine Mile has been talked about as the potential site for a grocery store for a while, but nothing has been said recently.
That tree on the right was cut down this week. It was dangerously and obviously rotted.
