Sector 111 report for January

Lieutenant Laino’s Sector 111 report for January (PDF) details a jump in the numbers:
During the month of January the Sector experienced a 14% increase in Major Crime; a 17% increase in violent crime (6 incidents reported in 2008 compared to 7 in 2009) and a 13% increase in property crime (38 incidents reported in 2008 compared to 43 in 2009). The increase in violent crime is directly related to robberies, 6 of the 7 reported incidents. Of the 6 reported incidents 2 have been cleared by arrest, 1 the offender has an outstanding warrant on file and the remaining 3 are still being investigated.
I had two black porch rockers that were stolen off my porch last night (on 26th Street) if anyone spots them around the Church Hill community. They were white to begin with but spray painted them black. Thanks.

We had things stolen off of our porch in the past and had to bolt and chain them down but after “bad elements” moved out, haven’t had that issue in years. At least on the 400 block of 27th..
Does anyone have information aobut gunshots being fired around 33rd & M? They go off almost every weekend. We had one drive by a couple of weeks ago when someone in a car shot off 5 rounds but no information from the police.
900 block of 26th Street. I suspect a nearby neighbor but can’t prove anything. I know this person has taken other stuff on our block but nothing was done about it.
Did you report it to the police about the rockers? I know it may feel futile, but the more these situations are reported the more police support and presence we get. It won’t get your rockers back, but it keeps the focus on the area.
Why the hell would you steal rocking chairs??? that’s the lamest thing in the world… aside from that its stealing.. but rocking chairs? that pretty much says anyone would steal anything in the area – bricks, rocking chairs.. what about your watering hose coming from your house??? (I joke, but im sure someone probably has done it!!)
I try to keep that behind the fence because someone probably would steal that too. it is partly my fault. I should have bought a bolt and chain for the rockers.
I didn’t file a police report because I didn’t think it would make much difference. It happened to nights ago, should I still file one since a day has already passed?
It may or may not get your rockers back, but it is an example of unreported crime. IMO people and the police need to know what’s going on to get a true picture of the actual crime rate.
