One Voice performance set for Cedar Street Baptist Church

One Voice, Richmond’s premiere interracial chorus, will present two performances ofMusic Down My Soul, a concert of traditional spirituals and a little whimsy: Sunday, Mar.21 at 7PM at Cedar Street Baptist Church on 23rd Street and Saturday, Mar.28 at 8PM at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Glen Allen.

One hour before each performance, Ana Edward will lead “Harmony in Living Black & White,” a conversation focusing on personal opportunities to enhance racial harmony in Richmond.

Musical selections will include Moses Hogan’s dramatic arrangement of “Elijah Rock “ Rosephanye Powell’s “I Dream a World,” and Vincent Youmans’ “Without a Song” featuring bass soloist Raymond Elmore. Light-hearted works by classical composers include Rossini’s “Cat Duet” and “Weather Forecast” by Henry Mollicone. The chorus of more than 130 singers representing the rich diversity of metropolitan Richmond will be conducted by One Voice Artistic Director Glen McCune and Associate Conductor Frank Williams.

One Voice Chorus was founded in 2002 to bridge cultural barriers through great music. Throughout the year, major concerts and community appearances engage performers and audiences with a variety of musical styles in a visible and audible demonstration of the beauty and power of diversity.

A ticket donation of $10 is requested for adults to cover the cost of the performance and to support the music and mission of One Voice. Admission is free for children 12 and younger. Tickets for the March 21 st and 28 th concerts are currently available from members of One Voice Chorus, and donations will be accepted at both concerts.
