Church Hill Irish Festival is this weekend
The 24th Annual Church Hill Irish Festival is this weekend, Saturday-Sunday, March 21st-22nd, at St. Patrick’s Church on North 25th Street between Broad and Franklin.
Kick off the Irish weekend with a walking parade to include traditional music and dancing Saturday at 10am. Enjoy the rest of the weekend with Irish musicians, bagpipers and dancers. This year’s lineup includes Uisce Beatha; the Janet Martin Band; Andy, Cindy and Then Some; Page Wilson; Gary Gerloff; Tinkers Damn; Bart Chucker Band; Kelly Kennedy; Susan Greenbaum and many other local favorites.
In addition to great entertainment, there will be plenty of family fun, including children’s games, face painting and Irish-themed crafts. Food and refreshments will also be available. Enjoy wonderful “Irish Lasagna” prepared by the Ladies of St. Patrick’s, “Fish and Chips” and other favorites provided by Poe’s Irish Pub, Rare Olde Times, and many more. A huge children’s play area will be sponsored by the great folks from “Connor’s Heroes”, an organization that assists families and children who are fighting childhood cancer.
Proceeds benefit the St. Baldrick’s Society and their fight against childhood cancer, the Church Hill Association, the Church Hill Crime Watch, Richmond Hill, Child Saver’s Clinic of Richmond, the St. Peter’s Meals Program, and many other neighborhood causes. Proceeds also benefit the historic preservation of St. Patrick’s Church, a “little church with a big heart”. We kindly ask that you leave all pets at home. For more information, visit www.ChurchhillIrishFestival.com or call 804-356-1093. Sponsored in part by Harp and Guinness.

I find it ironic that the Church Hill Assn deems a screen door or new fence a real imposition on everyone, yet the parking problems and public drunkenness created by this event are not.
How convenient!
By all means…come..have fun…please don’t look in my windows…and go home.
Jehovah, please take your complaints to Stokes McCune. He really does care. And he’s made a real effort to provide parking off-site, I think they’re using the parking lot next to McDonald’s and having shuttle service. I think that might be his phone number listed above, and there’s probably a way to contact him via the website listed above (last line, just before the ‘sponsored in part’ line).
I really do feel your pain, since I live in the subject area, right smack in the middle of it, and am truly affected. In years past, I’ve been a virtual prisoner because if I left during the day I had no place to park until the thing closed down at night. This year, I am lucky to have off-street parking, but I do understand your problems. Again, please talk to Stokes, he’s the organizer from St. Patrick’s who can help if you have problems.
According to Stokes, it’s ends at 6:30 on Sunday, not 6 as the website says.

How much does your screen door raise for charity?
And a screen door or new fence is forever, the Irish Festival appears for 2 days then is gone ’til next year.
I love the Church Hill Irish festival! Every year it brings Suburbanites and West Enders into our part of town and shows them that the Fan is not Richmond’s only safe, historic neighborhood. If it weren’t for the CHIF (and my damaged property values), I would move to another more business friendly neighborhood.
I suggest that you invite some friends from out of town every year to stay with you and enjoy the party. Stock up on supplies so you don’t have to leave. I think the Irish Festival is of the things that makes living here fun, even if I have to leave for a few minutes and have trouble parking when I return. City living at its finest.
In the future it would be helpful to post the street closings (are there temporary parking restrictions?) either on the CHIF site or here.
Good weather and it’s packed once again! Congrats.
Boz- dito. This year organizers seem to have missed the neighborhood communication aspect that was included in the last few years.
