Sector 111 report for April
Lieutenant Laino’s Sector 111 report for April (PDF) is available:
During the month [of April] the Sector experienced a 51% increase in Major Crime; no change in violent crime (9 incidents reported in 2008 compared to 9 in 2009) and a 64% increase in property crime (36 incidents reported in 2008 compared to 59 in 2009). Of the 9 violent crimes reported 1 was a Homicide, 1 was a Rape, 4 were Aggravated Assaults (Domestic), and 3 were robberies, 1 of which has been cleared by arrest. The current trend in Property Crime is thefts related to motor vehicles, to include the theft of motor vehicles, and all other larceny which includes everything from bicycles to packages left on the front porch.
The 3 1/2 page report is chock full o’ detail, check it out and keep an eye out for the creeps.
A couple comments.
First, thanks to the Lt. for providing the communtiy with this information.
Two, if a crime occured 10 years ago (in this case a rape) couldn’t it fall into another category, so that we can understand what is occuring in our community today.
Third, we all have a role in reducing crime in our community. The report lists several actions that we can all take to help reduce burglaries. They are simple steps and shame on you if you are too lazy to take a little initiative to protect your property:
Burglaries:
oMake sure you always lock your doors and window when you leave home.
oIf you are working in the rear yard be sure to lock your front door.
oDon’t leave items out that can be used to gain entry through a window, such
as ladders.
oKeep shrubs and trees trimmed.
oMake sure sheds and outbuildings are always locked.
oGet to know your neighbors – if you work during the day and they work
during the night keep a watch on each others property and exchange contact
numbers incase there is an emergency.
oNotify the Police Dept if you are going on vacation or out of town on
business.
Thefts related to motor vehicles:
oTake personal items in your home or secure in the trunk.
oInform your guests about leaving items in the interior of their vehicles.
The link to the report doesn’t seem to be working.
Fixed, thanks!
Last month there were 23 car break ins, 7 car thefts, and 11 other larcenys.
I’m predicting a 95% decrease in car break ins next month. my guess 2-3, any takers?
