Dedication of Sergeant John Henry Taylor’s Bench

The Church Hill Crime Watch invites all to the dedication of Sergeant John Henry Taylor’s Bench on Saturday, May 9, at 1PM in Libby Hill Park. The bench, given by the Church Hill Crime Watch, “honors retired Sergeant Taylor’s 25 years of service with the Richmond City Police Department and his above and beyond care and concern for the safety of every person living on Church Hill and the surrounding areas.” Reception to follow until 3PM.

Better Housing Coalition community bus tours

Better Housing Coalition will be giving bus tours of their communities on April 28, May 6, and May 12. The tours run from approximately noon-2PM and will take participants by single-family homes and townhomes in Church Hill, the senior community Carter Woods, and the mixed-use, mixed-income community Winchester Greens among others. A public hearing will be held on May 14 at 6PM at City Council Chambers in City Hall re the consideration of Union Hill for status as an Old and Historic District.

Spring Into Love Candlelit Walking Tours of Poe’s Richmond

Explore the ROMANTIC side of Poe on this candlelit walking tour through streets that the Poet himself wandered. The tour begins at St. John’s Church with a performance by Poe’s mother, Eliza Poe, reciting portions of Poe’s romantic verses. During this tour you will also learn about Poe, the hopeless romantic, and the women that he loved. Following the tour enjoy live harp music in the Poe Museum’s Enchanted Garden with hors d’ oeuvres and a cash bar.

Price of the event: $15.00 per person. Ticket includes:candle, guided tour, performance, one free drink ticket, and light fare. Please call the Poe Museum at 804.648.5523 for more information.

The Blue Sky Fund is sponsoring the fourth annual Church Hill Games at Bill Robinson Park in Church Hill. Over 150 kids K – 8th grade will be participating. Volunteers are needed to help set up, serve lunch, and monitor the youth.
