RPD announces Fugitives and Firearms Initiative
The Richmond Police today announced an initiative targeting illegal guns and wanted persons as they kick off the summer Fugitives and Firearms Initiative in the city.
Richmond Police officers are working in conjunction with Virginia State Police and the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority Police to capture fugitives and eradicate gun violence from the streets.
“We will be reaching out to the community to help us make the city safer by removing guns used illegally, which in turn will reduce the violent crime associated with firearms,” FFI operations leader Lt. Mauricio Tovar said.
The program runs through the summer and officers will focus primarily on areas in the city’s East End and Northside.
Anyone with information about known wanted persons, an illegal gun or who would like to turn in a gun to Richmond Police should call the Department’s Tips Line at 514-TIPS (8477).
TAGGED: crime
Confiscating illegal firearms is something we can (pretty much) all agree on.
But what makes this program different from others that have attempted to achieve this goal?
