Watch this house be reborn
07/06/2009 5:04 PM by John M
The crooked house at 2200 Marshall Street that was much appreciated back in March is on the way to being restored. Now in the experienced hands of David Cooley’s Restoration Builders of Virginia, this house will certainly be something to watch over the weeks to come.
The view to the west from the upstairs is one of the best Richmond skyline vistas that I’ve seen.
nice shot.
YAY! Cooley to the rescue! Can’t wait to see what it looks like when it’s jacked up and straight!!!!!!!!!!!! Another leaning house set straight!
John, that pic from upstairs is great, thanks!
It will be wonderful to see this house fixed up and restored. I’ve always liked its “Second Empire-ness”. Its interesting how it’s set apart from the adjoining row of frame townhouses to the east. Are there any old photos of the house, I wonder? It would look great if it had cast iron roof cresting that could be restored. So how skewed does it seem from the inside? Is the lean really evident?
Wow, I didn’t realize just how much it leaned! I walk by it a lot (and drive by it even more), but this is much worse than I had originally thought. It’s great to know it’s gonna be good as new again soon.
What’s nice about it are all the newly restored houses in the foreground. Now that’s a viewshed.
Thank goodness… Another year and that whole house would have been laying in the street!
That is absolutely fantastic news. This house is one of the biggest eyesores in all of Church Hill. Marshall Street from 21st to 23rd continues to need significant renovation. Some very good work has already been done closer to 21st. Hopefully this will continue the trend all the way up to 23rd. The houses there offer an incredible view of the city. In my humble opinion, this area is one the few remaining “undiscovered” areas of the city that will see significant appreciation in home values with some dedicated renovation work.
Yeah!! What great news.
Yes, the lean is very evident from the inside.
Now that the house is leveled, my concern would be how stable the foundation is now? Would it just sink further in the future due to the nature of the graound under it or has that been addressed?
Looks like Restoration Builders is about to tackle one of the worst houses on M St. Awesome to know it’s not being demolished
