A weird moment in Union Hill
A neighbor in Union Hill started the day off with a little drama:
this morning at 6 AM, I caught two caucasian guys in their early 20’s, one with short, dark hair and a thin Abe Lincoln-style beard, about 6′ or so, the other wearing a bandana or dark hat, about 5’8″ or so, trying to pry open our living room windows. When I confronted them through the locked windows, they said they had the wrong house and asked if my nextdoor neighbors were black.
They went to our neighbor’s north of us and began pounding on the door. My neighbor opened his door when our visitors went back to the sidewalk and their car, and they asked to speak to his son because he’d taken something from their house. When my neighbor said that he didn’t have a son and they had the wrong house, the guys took off in their silver early-mid ’90’s Volkswagen Golf or GTI with Virginia license plate XTE-9925. I called the police, who informed me when they arrived VERY soon after that the license plate was registered to a Volvo.
what the freak. what block did this occur on?
700 block of North 23rd
Dose rednecks be FUNNY! Stoopid, but funny!
Sheez that’s truly weird, to the point of spooky and a few other descriptive terms. Glad the cops arrived so soon, though. Also, congrats on the excellent descriptions of the guys and the car including license plate – maybe, just maybe, that will lead to the cops finding them?
Yeah, they don’t appear to be the sharpest tools in the shed. Good thing you were up early and so watchful.
Holy Cr@p. Two guys prying open my window wouldn’t strike me as ‘weird’. I would be scared out of my wits.
Hmmm…the clues are adding up: white boys in a volvo/volkswagen with historic facial hair roaming Union Hill to pry off windows.
Have you considered the possibility that they were thugs sent by the Commission of Architectural Review to confiscate inappropriate “fenestration” in advance of the proposed historic district?
Houdon, we restored our windows with the rest of the house, and the DHR approved our tax credit application, so I don’t think these guys were the historic preservation police:)
A reminder for all of us to keep a 2nd and 3rd watch, and take suspicious people more seriously than I did. I believe I may have averted a possible break in as well. I saw a w/m walking in the ally, around 1 or 1:30am, and turning into my yard. Once he saw me, he promptly turned around and left. He was on a cell phone. But stupid me, didn’t call police mainly because I didn’t get a description of him. Just know he was wearing shorts. Also, wasn’t able to see his direction of travel, other than he was heading towards 23rd St.,or if he even had a vehicle waiting.
Bob,
The white dude walking in your alley around 130 AM was probably walking towards your yard to take a leak.
