Alamo BBQ moving to recyclable containers

Just returned from Alamo BBQ with good news: they are using the last of their styrafoam containers which will be replaced with recyclable paper products – YIPEE! Please support the Alamo’s decision to go “green” by eating there often! They are a local business that cares about the Church Hill community and they offer GREAT and AFFORDABLE food and are a great addition to Church Hill!
Just what I need, another compelling reason to eat at Alamo even more frequently. Between them and Ronnie’s on Main Street this is totally the summer of BBQ. Another local business that does the to-go containers well is GlobeHopper: their cups and stuff aren’t just recyclable but compostable.
As if I needed another reason to frequent Alamo!
I applaud any containers that aren’t Styrofoam or plastic but anything with food residue on it is NOT recyclable. So know that your trash will decompose but don’t try to recycle it as the recycle will separate and trash it.
An excellent move. More places should do this.
China has banned plastic bags- why doesn’t the U.S.?
DG,
Does this mean plastic beverage bottles are not recyclable?
Sundagger,
If you wash out a plastic bottle (such as a Pepsi bottle) it is recyclable, but the cap is not and you can leave the label on the bottle. Same goes for plastic food a container’s with either a 1 or 2 recycling symbol on it, as long as the containers are washed before they are taken to the recycling place. Rinsing also maintains the value of the recyclable material.
In Richmond, they take majority of everything normally recycled, except plastic bag because they don’t have the machinery for that, but you can take the p. bags to your grocery store and they will recycle it for you. (Referring to the *Curb Side pick up.)
No Need to Sort!

Thnx
You can recycle your plastic bottle caps at any Aveda store…I am amazed at how quickly they pile up…they take caps from almost everything – “shampoo, water, soda, milk, flip top caps on tubes and food product bottles (such as ketchup and mayonnaise), laundry detergents and some jar lids such as peanut butter.”
It’s an awesome program – check out their site for more info:
