The Richmond Police Department’s Noteworthy Events details 3 different robberies over the past 3 days, only 2 of which happened late at night in areas that most people wouldn’t be walking if given a choice.

Not cool.
My neighbor’s shed got broken into earlier this week and the cops told him that there has also been a huge spike in home / shed break-ins in the CH North and Union Hill neighborhoods over the past month or so. Be on the alert!
The sense I get is that our local law enforcement is highly competent and wanting to help, but sadly understaffed given the scope of the problems.
Who do we petition to get some more police on the beat up here?
Yes there appears to be a lot of crime on the Hill at the moment. In fact, our neighbor suffered a B and E last week which was not reported in the statistics. What does this mean?
In any case, be prudent – nothing in cars, house doors locked and alarms on, if you’ve got them.
The alley ways are hard to monitor as well.
Meanwhile, Friday evening there were 4 or 5 cop cars (6 officers perhaps?) that pulled over a couple on the corner of Marshall and 31st Streets. All stood around while one officer talked with the couple, wrote them a ticket, then sent them on their way.
People have spotted others peeing in Chimborazo Park. John M. spotted a couple having sex on the park bench. I’ve heard couples having sex in their cars. Yet I’ve watched cops drive through the park and keep going despite, at times, several cars being parked there well after dark.
It’s a bit confusing to see twice now many cops arrive for one incident yet one can take 15min to respond to another.
It was also interesting to see how many police (dozens?) and police cars were available for the vigil for Jamal Hollman – the guy who was gunned down while breaking into a car (and possibly accosting the car’s owner) in Union Hill this spring.
If the RPD would dedicate even half the resources to protecting honest taxpaying citizens that it did to the slain car thief memorial, we might start making some progress on the crime front here.
