Candidates to post at Buzzy’s this evening
08/19/2009 6:45 AM by John M
Potential candidates for council Deanna Lewis and Gary Powell will be in front of Captain Buzzy’s tonight from 7-9ish collecting signatures to get on the ballot for the City Council 7th District contest. Stop by, shake a hand, and help’em participate in the democratic process.
Thanks to everybody who turned out and those that stopped on their walks up an down Broad Street to sign our petitions. You all were great, fun to talk to and asked a lot of good questions.
Gary and I will be out and about Church Hill tomorrow collecting more signatures.
Thanks for posting this John!
Deanna
I would very much like to sign both petitions, but am working nights this week. Deanna Lewis and Gary Powell, if you read this – do you have any plans to be available during the afternoon in the next two days? I understand you have to have the petitions in by close of business on Friday. Also, I am a notary and would be glad to notarize any that need to be notarized (other than the one that I sign myself).
Please post here and I will meet you anywhere in the neighborhood. My available hours are pretty much from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. this week, for either signing a petition or notarizing, thanks.
John Murden, after all the petitions are in, are you planning to do candidate bios here on the blog? I think it would be really helpful, particularly since I just volunteered to sign Gary Powell’s petition but don’t have a clue who he is, I just believe in having lots of choices!
Does anyone know who is running against Delores McQuinn for the 70th district House of Delegates seat?
Morning crd,
I’ll be happy to come to you today. Just post the time/place. I’ll bring a petition for Gary too.
That race is McQuinn v Henry Otis Brown.
Deanna, Buzzy’s between 3:00 and 3:30 would work for me. How about you? Thanks.
Deanna, I have to leave for work by 3:30, though.
See you there!
Thanks Deanna. I may be a few minutes late, but then I figure either of us has a nice place to wait at Buzzy’s. I’ll aim for 3:00 and hope I’m not too much later than 3:10.
Thanks to all who have signed anyone’s petition for City Council. The more choices we have the better for District 7. More people means more ideas and more voices. I, garry, will be out tonight and Friday until 3 in the afternoon wrangling signatures. If I may quote the singer MIA “hit me up on the pre-paid wireless” 385-1075, I will come to you for those registered voter’s signatures.
crd great question about the Bio’s. Quickly i will tell you i grew up going to Chimborazo Elementary, Bacon and East End Middle School, then Open High and Open Door Christian, before going to Winthrop College. When i skipped classes in middle school i generally ended up at the Chimbo payground, Album Den, Bohannon’s or loitering around Church Hill. I will kiss and tell all about myself as soon as the mad dash is over for signatures.
I strongly believe in being open and honest while respecting the views of others. Nuff said for right now.
John M. you are the scribe of D7. Thanks for giving Deanna and myself the chance to communicate with our neighbors.
Again 385-1075, please call me and help get another name on the ballot and give Church Hillians another choice come November 3rd.
Thanks to all you high quality Americans,
Garry
Hey Garry, glad you’re working on getting those signatures, I agree about having choices. Deanna has my phone number, call me tomorrow if you need a notary before turning them in at City Hall.
Gary was up at Buzzies as of 9:15 this morning and I will be joining him in a few. We might migrate to the Post Office on 25th st. later. Come on down, grab a beverage and meet us. Thanks!
Deanna
