Imagine a theater on 24th Street
08/29/2009 1:28 PM by John M
At the last CHA picnic, the artistic director of the Henly Street Theater Company James Ricks made the announcement that they were looking into the possibility of acquiring the vacant building on 24th Street just north of Broad Street for use as a theater space.
The Henly Street Theater Company is currently working out of the Pine Camp Cultural Arts Center on Old Brook Road.
I would like to imagine a theater at 418 N. 25th Street.
What a terrific idea! And, plenty of parking would be available in the lot adjacent to the building (N 24th Street and E Marshall). This can be an important step forward for all Churchillians.
Mark, that one on 25th is for sale I think, but it’s in need of a costly renovation and the owners probably won’t sell cheap. I believe the building pictured above may belong to the city, and at least it doesn’t appear to need a roof. Although I DO agree, it would be nice if the original theater on 25th became a theater again…
great news. i hope they go for it!!!
Just read my comment again, and realized it sounded somewhat negative, which I had not intended. I think it would be a wonderful idea if the Henly Street Theater Company could get the building on 24th Street, and Michael is right, there’s a parking lot right there.
I think this is a wonderful idea for the Hill! I have seen a couple of their shows and they are quite good. Best of luck to them!
That would be amazing!!! Live theatre within walking distance.
Bravo, Amy! Why does a theater in Church Hill need a large parking lot?
The Henly Street theatre group would be a great addition to the neighborhood -making Church Hill even more of a destination. Nothing beats arts, history, and culture!
