Chimborazo has a new playground!

The Friends of Chimborazo Playground has the details on today’s playground building and their extensive list of sponsors (including Country Style Donuts!):
About 300 volunteers built a new playground and a community garden today. By 2pm, volunteers and workers from Home Depot, KaBOOM! and the Church Hill community built a new playground, 16 garden plots, three compost bins, an arbor, a community bulletin board, blackboards, and a kids’ teepee, and installed new garden beds.
The grand opening of the new playground will be on Sunday once the cement has had time to set. Keep an eye out for more info.

Wonderful thing to see!
I saw them hard at work when I was walking my dog by the park this morning. I would have loved to have helped with the community garden and compost bins, but alas, I had to go to work. Great job!
thanks to the folks from Home Depot for rocking IT today!
In a world of bad press it’s refreshing to read about people creating positive change in their community. My hat is off to them!
That looks like it was good time for a good cause!
Times Dispatch has a story, too.

I am so excited and will try my best to be at the Grand Opening (with kids in tow of course)!
I understand the grand opening is Sunday at 3pm. This gives time for the concrete footings on the playground to cure.
I was truly honored to be a part of the Chimbo organizing committee and a participant in build day.
And, good news, apparently people volunteered in force for build day. I volunteered to help and was turned away because they had reached their max number already! A good problem to have!
There were close to 300 volunteers. There were volunteers from Home Depot, Altria, Richmond Police, SBNA, I saw some CHA faces and others in the community. It was such a beautiful sight to see. So many people working so hard for the children. Thank you to everyone who helped! It was a great time.
