ACORN is no longer ACORN
In an email today, the Alliance to Conserve Old Richmond Neighborhoods announced that they will no longer use the ACORN acronym:
As the recent, unpleasant news about the national ACORN organization has been on and in the news, we have received phone calls and e-mail messages asking if we are part of– or affiliated with– that group. Unfortunately, we have received more than one ugly, unpleasant communication.
In an effort to avoid spending any more time explaining our non-association with the national entity, we have made the decision to stop using the “A.C.O.R.N.” acronym and will revert to our full, six-word name– which we hope will make our mission and work clear to the general public. The Alliance to Conserve Old Richmond Neighborhoods is proud of its history and mission and hope to continue to serve our city and its residents to make Richmond the best it can be for all of us.
TAGGED: ACORN
So you were victimized by people too stupid to know the difference. Those are really the people we need to inform our political discourse.
Sorry for your problems. Glad we know the kind of people attacking ACORN.
Hey Right On Broad…. I guess I was right! I’ll accept your apology as soon as you offer……
Oh and david, you DON’T know the people attacking the real ACORN. You don’t have a clue……see ya in 2010!
oh yeah, I forgot….I’m forwarding this whole story to Beck. It’ll give America a chance to watch normal regular people run away and distance themselves from these real ACORN crooks…… chuckle! BTW, Richmond ACORN does a FANTASTIC job. Awesome.
Hey, Cristo….you had it right, huh?
I am sure your friend Mr. Beck will be impressed with your deductive powers, once you forward this story to him. I know I have been after reading your posts and watching the process of your getting this all sorted out in your little mind.
awwwww c’ville, you hurt my feelings. 🙁 You’re so cruel and your logic so infallible….my “little mind” hurts! But thanks for following my posts. Glad to know your a fan. Don’t worry though, I’m not following yours at all 🙂
Can the change their name to something like..People for Old Richmond Neighborhoods? maybe thats too severe…how about Society Organized For The Protection of Old Richmond Neighborhoods??
I’m sorry (our) A.C.O.R.N. feels tarnished by association. It’s unfortunate and I hope will not detract from the support they get.
It’s not that “Richmond A.C.O.R.N.” felt “tarnished” or have any kind of issue with the national ACORN. We were just spending an inordinate amount of office time replying to calls, messages and e-mails asking if we were that ACORN or associated with that ACORN. We have too small a staff and too much to do to use our time that way. After 11 years, we will certainly not change our actual name: the Alliance to Conserve Old Richmond Neighborhoods. We have always used “richmondneighborhoods” for our web site and e-mail. We were in Richmond years before the other organization, and they don’t currently have an entity in the city, but we felt the need to clarify who we are. The work goes on.
