Macabre March Candlelit Tour

Pay homage to the life and works of Edgar Allan Poe on this memorial Candlelit walking tour. Begin your tour in the grave yard of St. Johns Church then stalk the old haunts of Poe while enjoying local ghost lore. End your tour with an eerie performance in the haunted gardens of the Edgar Allan Poe Museum. Enjoy a cash bar and wickedly delicious treats while browsing the exhibits of the Poe Museum.

Richmond’s Unhealed History

Richmond Hill presents “Richmond’s Unhealed History,” 1607-2009, nine lectures on the history of Richmond, on Tuesday nights from September 22 to November 17 at 7:30 p.m. The lectures are by the Rev. Ben Campbell,

Liberty Lecture Series

The biannual Liberty Lecture Series is co-produced by the Valentine Richmond History Center and the St. John\’s Church Foundation. Lectures focus on different aspects of political, social, economic, and regional history, and are held in the sanctuary of St. John\’s Church in Church Hill.

The speaker for the October installment is Dr. George Herring, Professor Emeritus at the University of Kentucky and author of From Colony to Superpower: U.S. Foreign Relations since 1776, published by Oxford University Press in late 2008. Formerly a professor at the University of Richmond, Dr. Herring will draw parallels to current U.S. diplomacy issues with historical challenges and lessons.

The lecture is free; guests are invited to stay for a post-lecture lunch and book signing. Books will be available for sale in the St. John\’s Church Visitor Center. Lunch is $10.00; reservations are required. Please contact Kate Aliberti at 804.649.0711 ext. 339.
