Persinger vs McClellan
10/21/2009 6:19 PM by John M
Silver Persinger, publisher of the Richmond City Council Reporter and Telegraph and candidate for District 71 of the House of Delegates, has posted video of last night’s candidates forum between himself and incumbent Jennifer McClellan put together by the Richmond Crusade for Voters.
District 71 of the VA House of Delegates
I’ll admit I haven’t watched the video yet, but Jenn McClellan is one of the best things we’ve got going for us in the General Assembly. We need to keep her around.
I have watched the video. I (a) will vote for McClellan (b) don’t 100% agree with either candidate (c)agree with Persinger’s overall message as to why he decided to run. I also agree that the lack of tranparancy is disappointing. I find in most cases there is a lack of true representation of consituants; which is a major problem with politics in general – especially local. Options are never a bad thing unless you have six that can damage the opportunity to narrow down the best candidate for the job.
re: #2
Options are good. And I would like to have 6 candidates running for one seat.
Rather than fracturing the electorate, I support instituting Instant Runoff Voting [IRV].
IRV is a more democratic method of voting, does away with “spoiler candidates”, ensures you have an elected member who receives over 50% support from the electorate, allows voters to vote for their true selection rather than voting strategically, and does away with the monopoly on government held by the Democratic and Republican Parties.
Why vote for Jennifer McClellan? I don’t know anything she’s done or not done. I’m voting for Silver.
I’m voting for Silver, too.
If Church Hill Dem (#1) wants to list a few accomplishments of McClellan’s, I’ll read about them. Still intend to vote for Silver. I’ve heard McC touted as the best thing since sliced bread, ‘rising young star in the Dem party,’ etc. but she never impressed me much.
