Richmond Slumlord Watch digs deeper
10/23/2009 6:42 AM by John M
A new watchdog blog, the Richmond Slumlord Watch, has recently began publishing. In their most current post, they connect the dots on vacants in northside and Mechanicsville Turnpike owned by William J. Earley. Another post looks at the city’s Vacant Property Registry through the lens of vacant properties in Church Hill North.
I love the photographs, they really document the situation on the ground. Perhaps these folks could hook up with the minds behind the now-defunct Vacant Richmond and get a mapping feature put together?
Excellent site!
Are the homes at the bottom of the hill (other side of Libby Hill) on 30/31st St considered “slums”?
Thanks for posting about/linking to this site — great to see such efforts going on in our city!
Oliver Lawrence has a court date tomorrow at 930am in the basement of the Criminal Court building across from Marshall building.
#2 – are you talking about what we call Sugar Bottom? Accessed by taking East Franklin Street east past North 29th Street? Then, yes, they are slums, but not owned by Oliver Lawrence, the slum lord being discussed here. The attached row of houses at the very bottom is actually sort of being worked on by the owner.
#5 – so that’s where Sugar Bottom is! I had heard the name before, but never knew where it was – thanks for your info…any idea where the name comes from?
#6, don’t recall where the name Sugar Bottom comes from. It’s also been called Bloody Run, and that comes from a battle with Native Americans, as I recall.
