Union Hill Home Fund to help meet the needs of poor, elderly
12/01/2009 6:42 AM by John M
The December Newsletter from the Alliance to Conserve Old Richmond Neighborhoods has word on the Union Hill Home Fund:
In addition, the “Union Hill Home Fund” has been set up to help meet the needs of poor, elderly, disabled, widowed or orphaned neighbors living in the new District; it is already set up to receive tax-deductible donations by mailing a check to the Alliance to Conserve Old Richmond Neighborhoods or by donating online at richmondneighborhoods.org and specify “The Union Hill Home Fund.”
We are pleased to announce the Union Hill Home Fund and have already taken steps toward making it a self-sustaining entity dedicated to the service of our neighbors in need. Credit goes to our councilwoman, Cynthia Newbille, and Cedar Street Baptist Church for this idea. Both have agreed to serve as directors of the fund in future weeks, along with a member of the UHCA, a local realtor, a preservationist, and a Union Hill businessperson.
The law firm of Williams Mullen has offered, pro bono, to create the 501c entity and to register it with the United Way, accordingly. Until then the Alliance to Conserve Old Richmond Neighborhoods has established a separate account to receive donations as you describe above. Please consider the Union Hill Home Fund in your year-end giving if you have not already done so.
We hope to announce a major gift to this fund soon.

Matt,
Congratulations. This is a superb initiative.

The Union Hill Home fund was supposedly folded into the Storefront for Community Design more than a year ago, but they have never even heard of it. So, does this fund still exist, and if so, to whom does one direct inquiries?
Still no word on what has happened to the Union Home Hill Fund? Does anyone know anything about this?
The fund was merged with the Storefront for Community Design in early 2010. You can find information about their work in Old and Historic Districts and throughout the City here: http://www.storefrontrichmond.org/
They are physically located on North 25th Street and on Broad Street downtown. If you need design assistance or help navigating the Commission for Architectural Review’s processes, they will provide free or reduced cost services to help homeowners.
