Black&white cat found at 23rd and M Street:
Black and white female kitten, started hanging around late last week. Had a scratch on the nose like she had been fighting. Very affectionate. No collar.
Feral cat? Pharrell cat?
It’s possible she’s just a stray, but she seems to be comfortable with people.
Feral cats are NOT comfortable around people. You can’t even get close to them unless they are twelve weeks young or younger. Hence, she’s someone’s pet or former pet. Keep her inside when it’s cold out, please, even though she’s got fur she can’t stay outside when the temperature is in the thirties. Also, given that she’s a pet, she doesn’t have much knowledge about survival outside.
You might take her to Dr. Jack at Church Hill Vet and see if she’s microchipped. Couple of years ago I thought I’d been adopted by a nice orange cat, took him to the vet, turned out he was microchipped and just visiting me. Actually he was visiting a food bowl I’d put out that summer!
Actually, feral cats around that area are very comfortable around people, as there are a several people who feed them regularly. In fact, black & white cats are very common in the feral community, so I wouldn’t be surprised at all. A check for fleas, or “flea dirt” will let you know if the cat is likely feral.
I should have said “some” of the feral cats are sociable. Of course not all of them!
May I suggest you see Dr. Jack or Prevent A Litter if you decide to keep her, either can help you out with an affordable spay (Dr. Jack says it’s best to spay em while they’re young b/c they recover faster.)
that looks almost exactly like the male kitten i found near chimborazo a few months ago! he was feral and completely flea-ridden, but very friendly. he lives with my parents now.
Check with the dude that lives in the house on the SW corner of M and Jessamine – has lots of potted plants / flowers on the porch.
(i.e. almost exactly where you found this kitty).
The guy has LOTS of cats, including one that looks JUST LIKE the one in your photo.
