No potholes in Church Hill?
02/09/2010 6:16 PM by John M
Launched in the wake of the recent snows, the Pothole City blog (“ALL POTHOLES, ALL THE TIME”) seeks to help Richmonders “find a route that is free from potholes and other scary spots on the street.” So far it looks like there aren’t any potholes listed in Church Hill… Got a pothole in your area? Put it on the map!
According to tv media reports today, the City will pick up the tab for your damage under SOME circumstances, but they apparently won’t EASILY share to what extent they are doing this money-wise.
They probably don’t want to give pothole victims ideas.
maybe it is because we Church Hillers are tough and don’t complain so much……
Check out M Street between 25th & 27th, they seem to grow everyday
25th and E.Main has had a major drainage issue for some time now. In addition to a small pond that inevitably results in the hearty dousing of pedestrians and folks waiting for the bus there is now a small crater underneath the pond. The snow plows have plowed up cement and cobblestones which are littering the street. Best to avoid 25th and E.Main’s westbound lane for now.
#1, I saw something on the Times Dispatch website about VDOT possibly picking up the tab, but nothing about the city doing that. Can you find out how one would submit a claim? And the article I read said that VDOT basically would entertain the claim but prob. not pay….
#2, yea right, we did a right fair job of complaining about the snow plows not plowing last week, and this week we got plows! LOL and potholes…
I’ve already posted on the pot hole thing on the Times Dispatch. My two contributions were the storm drain at 25th and E. Main, which has been clogged up for months and seems to be collapsed, and the potholes from where E. Franklin meets Williamsburg Ave., heading west past the light at Main St., and on E. Main until 25th St. I think the hillside of Libby Hill Park is leaking water and causing most of the problem – it’s been like driving on corragated cardboard for awhile now, and the snow and plowing just made it worse. Not being an engineer, I don’t know for sure, but have to wonder if the grading the city did on the backside of Libby Hill in the fall somehow opened up some of the springs up there, causing water to constantly stand in the gutter along E Main coming into town heading west.
No complaints from Church Hill residents? Are you kidding me? This area has a voice louder than most in the City.
What? No pot and ho’s on Church Hill?
Has anyone noticed if they’ve fixed the giant car-eating crater at Leigh and 12th, the one that stretches across all 3 lanes? I almost lost a tire going through there at 5mph the other day.
Not yet, Tom. Though I did see a hoopdie bottom out pretty hard today (6pm). Much worse going east, but west-bound getting worse by the day. I’ve taken to using my hazards so people don’t slam into me as I crawl over it.
Let me get this straight. You want the city government to pay damages for you hitting a pothole……….. you are the same people that want the government to stop helping homeless people because your taxes are so high, so, do you want the government to pay for your misfortune and not theirs?…… pathetic.
The drop inlet at 25th and Main has indeed been clogged for months. It got filled with sand when they dug up the sidewalk at the 25th and Franklin condo project and a storm washed all the sidewalk sand down the street.
A major pothole formed there several months ago. Cobblestones were flying everywhere. They fixed the pothole, but not the cause-the clogged drop inlet.
Why? Public Works fixes potholes. Public Utilities fixes storm drains.
What was the fix this week? Put a couple of orange cones to mark the pothole. Meanwhile the drain is still clogged.
File under, “Not My Job.”
I have potholes in my lawn
Has anyone reported the clogged inlet to the call center…3-1-1…as a stormwater management issue?
Just called them at 311, their ‘system is down’ but the woman took the report manually. We’ll see what happens.
